Chevrolet: One brand name that stands out in the market today. Manufacturing a vast range of vehicles suited for different tastes and tasks, Chevrolet has one vehicle in store for even the most discriminating consumer.

Co-founded by Louis Chevrolet and William Durant, Chevrolet has grown from its modest beginnings to one of the world's most recognizable brand names. Chevrolet, a race car driver and Durant, a partner who had been eased out of General Motors, used their zeal and passion for automobiles to start a worldwide brand name that has been trusted for so long. Also, Durant wanted to use Chevrolet's designs to rebuild his reputation in the automotive industry.

In November of 1911, Chevrolet entered the market, hoping to compete with the Ford Model T. A year later, the "Classic Six", featuring six cylinders in its engine, debuted. The Classic Six was capable of going up to 65 miles per hour, offering real speed to a generation used to horse carriage.

In 1913, Chevrolet first started using its famous "bowtie" logo. Its story was one of serendipity. According to the 50th anniversary issue of the Chevrolet Story, "It originated in Durant's imagination when, as a world traveler in 1908, he saw the pattern marching off into infinity as a design on wallpaper in a French hotel. He tore off a piece of the wallpaper and kept it to show friends with the thought that it would make a good nameplate for a car."

By 1916, Chevrolet was making money, and Durant began purchasing GM stocks. In 1917, Durant was president of GM; Chevrolet merged with GM and became a division manufacturing a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to pickup trucks.

In 1955, Chevrolet came up with its most famous car engine: the small block V8. The 265 cubic inch V8 has been the most widely known and versatile car engine. Chevrolet's V8 came in three versions: 1. the two-barreled carburetor (rated at 165 HP); 2. the four-barreled carburetor, which was rated at 185 HP and 3. the underrated "power pack" version (high lift solid lifter cam, high compression heads, and dual exhaust) which rated out at 195 HP.

Since the merger, Chevrolet has found success with General Motors. Many famous Chevrolet cars such as Astro, Avalanche, Blazer, Optra became household names, among other Chevrolet parts and models. A wide range of car makes and models have been made available for the American (and global) market. Premium car makes such as the Aveo, Cavalier, Cobalt, Corvette, Impala, Malibu have been snapped up like hotcakes in dealerships. Various trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and minivans like the Avalanche, Blazer, TrailBlazer, Tahoe, Uplander and Venture has their own niche market.

Manufacturing a wide range of vehicles suited for various discriminating tastes and wants have become a way of life for Chevrolet's staff. It is because of this that Chevrolet has gained a cult following among consumers; in the 1960s, one out of ten cars was a Chevrolet. Name a particular type of vehicle: be it a compact; an SUV or a truck, Chevrolet has it, making it a vehicular cornucopia.
